About
Alma Ambrose
The Winemaker & Founder
In the storied landscape of Napa Valley, where the line between craft and art is often blurred by morning fog, Alma Ambrose has charted a rare and respected path: from sommelier to winemaker. Her journey is a testament to the power of palate, patience and a profound respect for the land.
The Sommelier Years: Forging a palate Alma’s story began not in the vineyard, but in the glass.
For almost a decade, she was a prominent sommelier at Krupp Brothers winery. With an intuitive palate and a gift for narrative, she didn’t just serve wine; she translated it. This career honed a critical skill: the ability to deconstruct a wine’s architecture – its balance, texture, and soul – and, more importantly, to imagine the potential in a bottle.
The Turning Point: From Sommelier to Winemaker.
The transition was sparked by a simple, persistent question: “What if I could make the wine I dream of pouring?”
Winemaking Philosophy: The Sommelier’s Lens
Alma’s Winemaking is defined by her sommelier past. She creates with the table in mind – her wines are designed for food, conversation, and moments. Her sommelier’s adaptability allows her to listen to what each year gives, guiding rather than forcing the wine into a predetermined style.
Today, Vino Con Alma is a small-lot production. She has completed a rare circle: the storyteller became the source, the interpreter now the author. Alma doesn’t just make wine, she crafts the chapters she once loved to read.
